Pause, Then Act

Whether you’re letting other people’s demands on your time stress you out or you’re curling quietly into Child’s Pose, you’re always practicing something. The question is: Are you practicing actions that take you in the direction you want to go?

Yoga teaches us that trusting our own wisdom trumps bowing down to the expectations of others. And when we live from satya, truth, it guides all of our actions.

But it’s not always easy to discern what’s calling to us: truth or habit, inner wisdom or wanting to please? This is where reflection is critical.

Try this: Before making an agreement—or breaking one—take 24 hours for self-inquiry. When you can move away from how it feels and back into what you deeply, calmly know to be true for you in each case, then you know it’s aligned with your truth.
