Yoga for a Broken Heart: A Spiritual Guide to Healing from Break-up, Loss, Death or Divorce, by Michelle Paisley. Findhorn Press; findhornpress.com

Yogis have long touted yoga’s potential for easing depression, elevating moods, and providing support during trying times. In the first half of Yoga for a Broken Heart, Michelle Paisley chronicles her trials and tribulations in romantic relationships, with some yogic philosophy, humor, and unwavering optimism.

The second half of the book explains basic asanas that helped Paisley handle her emotional pain. The pose descriptions are clear and easy to follow, providing both anatomical directions and imagery for guidance. A nice addition would have been notes to explain the emotionally healing properties of each pose.

Her sequence of active and restorative poses will surely bring a sense of calm and relaxation to yogis of all practice levels. The connection between physical postures and emotional well-being remains a central tenet in yoga, and Yoga for a Broken Heart offers a solid introduction for anyone looking to mend their heart.
