Namaste,

K. Pattabhi Jois should never had called his form of yoga ashtanga (in sanscrit this means 8). This system was put forth by the great Sage Patanjali a few hundred years B.C. All yoga is based on this system since Patanjali was the the father of yoga. By Mr. Jois calling his system Ashtanga Yoga has a does a diservice to all yoga students around the world.

Beginning yoga students would be better served in learning the fundamentals of yoga as put forth by the Sage Patanaji.

Furthermore, how does Mr. Jois have the audacity to call his yoga system Ashtanga? Did he not know that All yoga originates from this system and all yoga is in fact Ashtanga or 8 Limbed.

Mr. Jois has done a disservice and confused the entire system which Sage Patanjali has put together so beautifully.

In Kali Yuga, (the present age) many persons take credit for things that do not belong to them for name, fame and money.

Authentic Ashtanga Yoga was given to the Sage Patanjali by Divine means and for another teacher to use this name only confuses students of yoga.

This system was given by the Divine to the Sage Patanjali and does not belong to Mr. Jois.

By Mr. Jois using the name Ashtanga for his system of yoga only serves to confuse beginner students of yoga.

All yoga is based on Sage Patanjali's Ashtanga (8 Limbed System) This name never should have been used by Mr. Jois.

In the age of Kali, various persons take credit for things that do not belong to them.

This system was given to the sage Patanjali by Divine Means and does not belong to Mr. Jois. It was given by the Divine Beings to the Sage Patanjali.

Mr. Jois has done a disservice to the students of yoga for taking credit for Ashtanga Yoga when it fact it is Patanjali's System.

This is disgraceful!

The ultimate aim of Yoga is to become the "Self" by awakening the Kundalini, which is in every living being.
Unfortunately in the USA we have stero typed yoga to various types of exercises (styles) and have named them , Hatha, Kripuls, Kundalini etc. and dress accordingly.
But what if you didn't want to do exercises and asanas. What then? Is there another way to practice yoga without attending yoga studios?

Yes. There are different paths of yoga, which are also fun and will lead to the same end result and best of all they can all be taught.

Dr. Hasmukh Taylor, Doctor of Metaphysical Science offers a dynamic presentation and guides with fun the science of awakening the Kundalini with various types of Yoga. He will show the techniques and models to be used for each type of Yoga to give clear insight into awakening the Kundalini. He, also, offers how the world must be perceived in the holographic sense, through synchronicity proven to powerfully affect the divine matrix, to restore perfect health and well being. I realize that this is a cut and paste from past articles, but there should be some fact checking, for instance, Mr. Iyengar (Guruji) is 92 not 80 and still has a very regular practice.

Yoga style creators, you are successfully bringing great followers. They become fanatic just like religious fanatic. For Yoga Journal, why the topic is like this? Do you realize that there are real living people never aware of yoga style, and they start questioning: what kind of yoga Im doing? And for us, Eastern people: O.there are more than 300 yoga styles. Why my grandfather never told us that? Yoga Journal and yoga style creators should not make worse, people more confuse about the style.
Honestly we just smile when we see you (Western) turned yourself into sadhu, dread locker, hippies and wearing holy priest/monk clothes look alike. We actually dont understand this phenomenon.

Just wanted to second two previous comments and suggest that Forrest yoga should be included, perhaps under the healing category. It is a wonderful practice and I hope more people will learn about it!

Most people are evolved to the point they want to stay healthy and live to be a 100 years old, that's it. Yoga has been Westernized as that is where the money is. Did you know the Sivananda Teacher's training has taught over 26,000 people. Swami Vishnu brought Yoga to the West.

Curious ... there is no mention of Yin Yoga - as handed down through the lineage of Paulie Zink, Paul & Suzee Grilley, and Sarah Powers!!? Yin Yoga is a distinct method of practice. I would therefore have assumed that because of this distinctiveness - Yin Yoga would have merited an inclusion in this article!

Just a gentle correction to the Ashtanga definition, if I may - if the teacher is experienced, compassionate, and knowledgeable, you WILL, and should, get great adjusts/assists in Ashtanga Yoga - in fact, it has always been a hands-on form of hatha yoga practice, especially when taught in the Mysore style classroom, where the teacher assists and adjusts students as needed, as they move through a memorized self-practice sequence of specific asanas, following their own breath, and based on their own level of strength, flexibility and experience. And sadly, Pattabhi Jois died two years ago, so he is no longer "living in Mysore, India" as your article states!
