Why do I need liability insurance?
Liability insurance protects yoga instructors against damages incurred or legal actions brought about by claimants as a result of the instructor's teaching duties. Click here for more information about this.
The gym or yoga studio where I teach has insurance and they have me covered. Why do I need my own insurance?
If you're teaching as an independent contractor, it's increasingly common for the studio, gym, or other facility that hires you to require that you have an individual policy of your own. Facilities that don't have this requirement because they have coverage can forget to renew regularly, or have exclusions that leave you unprotected. Having your own coverage is good risk management for anyone who runs their own business or classroom.

What styles of Yoga does Fitness and Wellness insure?
Where is an instructor covered?
Policy follows the instructor anywhere you teach in the continental USA and internationally for short business trips that do not exceed 30 days.
Does this policy cover me if I get injured?
No, this policy does not cover you if you get injured on the job. This is a liability policy that protects you from claims brought against you or your business for bodily injury or property damage arising out of your negligence.
Will my individual policy protect me if I open a studio?
No, if you open up a studio you would need to upgrade to a business policy. Your individual policy excludes leasing, renting or owning studios or having employees or independent contractors.
Will this policy cover me if I teach/train children?
Yes, our policy does not restrict age or gender of your students.
What if I teach at various locations?
Fitness and Wellness' Liability Policy follows you wherever you teach. You're covered whether you teach at a yoga studio, fitness center, recreation center, someone's house-or at all of these.
Can I add the landlord as an additional insured to my insurance policy?
Most of the places where you teach will ask to be named on your policy as an additional insured to avoid liability exposure from any incident due to your negligence. (Note that the landlord is still exposed for their own negligence.) The first ten additional insured on your policy are free; other insurance companies may charge you.
Do I have to pay for substitutes who cover for me?
Your individual policy covers only you and will not transfer to a substitute teacher. Your business policy will cover a substitute teacher. You should always make sure the person who subs for you carries his or her own insurance. Your insurance program covers only the named individual on the policy: you.
Is Benefits Plus available in Canada?

You are still eligible for the insurance program if massage is a minor part of your business, or if you are doing mat Pilates, or you have Pilates machines. The rates may change subject to the additional services and equipment you offer.
