At Mount Madonna Center we feel honored to teach a comprehensive system of yoga that has endured for thousands of years, yet remains vital and relevant in today's world. The aim of our 200-hour program is to assist each student in deepening their understanding of the methods and philosophy of yoga as a way to both strengthen their personal practice and to develop as yoga instructors.
It is also our intention that those who wish to teach have the tools to offer a beginning yoga class upon completion of the training, and have some understanding of the vast background of this great science and spiritual practice.
The training focuses primarily on the systems of Ashtanga and hatha yoga, and the methods we teach include shatkarma (bodily purifications), mudra (positions that seal and direct energy), pranayama (breathing practices), asana (postures), and dhyana (meditation).
The foundational theory that supports these practices is covered in classes on Patanjali's Yoga Sutra, Samkhya philosophy, basic principles of Ayurveda, subtle body theory, anatomy and physiology. In addition, instruction in how to pass on this knowledge, or how to teach, is woven throughout the program and presented in specific classes.
In our 500-hour program, we go deeper into these studies as well as other aspects of yoga practice and theory. Please see our website for further details. Mount Madonna Center is an approved school registered with the Yoga Alliance for both 200- and 500-hour trainings.
