WHAT:
One week of hatha yoga on the beautiful Greek island of Paros, the perfect combination of good yoga and beach holiday. Iyengar-style but with a softer approach. Open for all levels, from complete beginners to more experienced. Exercises will be adapted to your personal abilities. Small groups of up to eleven, individual correction, use of props.
WHERE:
Aliki Yoga School is located 100 meters from the beach, close to the small fishing village Aliki on the island of Paros. No mass tourism—Greece as you see it in your dreams. The course is yoga only, not all-inclusive, but we will help you to find a nice room to stay in.
WHEN:
All year long drop-in classes, open for everybody. Several one-week intensive courses offered April–October, Sunday–Saturday, 9:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m. six times a week and 5:30–7:00 p.m. three times a week. Wednesday is a free day to enjoy for yourself. There will be enough time left over to enjoy the island, the sun, the sea, the Greek lifestyle. You can also bring your own group apart from the program mentioned on the site.
WHO:
Teacher Oona Giesen started her Iyengar Yoga practice 40 years ago, when she was seven years old. She was trained by Agnes Hillen, Margriet Post, VIctor van Kooten, and most of all her mother (Jeanne Buntinx) all of whom were trained personally by B.K.S. Iyengar. Oona started teaching Iyengar-based hatha yoga 20 years ago, at her mother's yoga school in Amsterdam/the Netherlands and in her own yoga school on the island of Paros. Although she has a softer approach, the influences of B.K.S. Iyengar can be felt in her classes. She became an expert through her experience in managing back pain with yoga since she broke her spine in a car accident in 1998 (for more information go to yoga-paros.com and click on interviews) . She is recognized by IYF (International Yoga Federation) and VYN (Vereniging Yogadocenten Nederland).
