Ananda Ashram in Monroe, New York, is a non-profit, Yoga retreat and spiritual-education center just over one hour from New York City, located in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains. The grounds provide a serene, natural environment with woods and meadows surrounding a lake. Accommodations are simple, with vegetarian meals.
We offer daily meditation programs with Yoga-Vedanta studies, chanting and readings and daily Hatha Yoga and Sanskrit classes, plus classical Indian dance and music instruction and a variety of weekend workshops and special events. Open year-round, the Ashram welcomes guests from all origins, faiths and cultural backgrounds.
Join us for one month in residence at the historic Ananda Ashram. Immerse yourself in a profound exploration of the art and science of Yoga. Learn Yoga philosophy and psychology directly by chanting and study of the original source material, the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Learn to read and write the ancient Sanskrit devanagari script and to pronounce and chant with confidence. Gain a wealth of knowledge and experience to bring the timeless teachings of Yoga into your daily life and to impart them to others.
We will focus on Ashtanga and Vinyasa styles of asana practice inspired by the teachings of Krishnamacharya and the Mysore tradition and presented in the light of Guru Shri Brahmananda Sarasvati's lineage. Both restorative and vigorous practices will be explored. You will develop a profound connection to your own practice and receive a 200-hour Yoga Alliance certification upon completion of the training.
