All year-round: An affordable 5-day yoga vacation in Peru in a beautiful natural protected area. Come connect with nature and yourself in this small ecosystem that is "Tambo Ilusion". We offer a rustic environment that is simple yet nourishing and inspiring.

The retreat includes daily yoga classes (8 classes) in our gorgeous yoga space where the sounds of nature will transport you to a place of natural serenity deep within yourself. There will be a variety of styles practiced: Hatha, gentle, restorative and yoga flow.

Tambo Ilusion is operated by Johanne and Armando, a Canadian/Peruvian couple. Johanne is originally from Montreal Canada. Armando, a leader in the conservation movement of Peru, is originally from Lima.

Johanne is a Hatha yoga teacher registered with the Yoga Alliance at the E-RYT 200 hour level. She completed her first teacher training in 2004, has trained in the schools of Iyengar and Anusara yoga, and teaches with an alignment-based approach. She has also completed teacher trainings in prenatal yoga, yoga for seniors and for children. Johanne has also taught yoga in Asia, Europe, North and Central America.

We are dedicated to offering quality yoga classes, good healthy vegetarian meals and hospitable service. Learn about beekeeping, permaculture and lombriculture. Relax and enjoy the surroundings by taking herbal baths (a ritual of showering with herbal water to clean the aura), swimming in the gorgeous lagoon, observing nature's wonders and more!

Yoga teachers are welcome to host retreats at Tambo Ilusion.

I have to admit, I was a bit nervous at first. I thought "a yoga retreat? But I'm only a beginner. What if I can't keep up?" but The yoga classes at Tambo ilusion are specifically designed for what ever level you are at. Joanne, the yoga instructor will cater specifically to your needs. I fell in love with yoga while at this retreat. It was so relaxing and yet there was always something to do whether you want to take a dip in the pond on the property, hike to the river near the town, go on nature walks, or just lounge around in the hammocks. This retreat lets you choose how adventurous, relaxing, or vigorous you want it to be. The food is to die for vegetarian, or vegan food. There are also plenary of fresh fruits surrounding you on the property, if you are willing to compete a little with the monkeys a little :-). I tried cacao fruit, which was my favorite, although there is not much meat in it. It has a similar taste to bananas. Guaba fruit, which is a sweet fluffy melt in your mouth fruit, and there are plenty more including mangos, papayas, plantains, and much more. You will find yourself falling asleep to the sound of musical jungle animals at night. This music is way better than any chirping noises you'll find on iTunes. All in all the Tambo Ilusión experience is definitely one worth having.

This retreat was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The beauty of the surroundings is breathtaking. Days are filled with hiking, Yoga, beautiful scenic views, swimming in rivers and relaxing on hammocks. To do yoga in the natural element of the jungle has always been one of my dreams. Joanne is an excellent yoga teacher with years of experience, Knowledge and training. Her classes focus on alignment of the body. We began class each day with a light meditation and moved on to a more structured yoga session. After each yoga class I felt my body was more in line and I was more aware of my posture and my overall being in the world. Each class put me into a blissful state of relaxation. Classes are gentle yet detailed and good for all levels of yoga. Included in the retreat there are three deliciously prepared vegetarian meal. These meals have to be made with love or they would never be so good. I am not a vegetarian but very much enjoy healthy food that taste good too. The food at this retreat went beyond my expectations. Freshly prepared every day with a variety of different options, Joanne's cooking left me feeling fully nourished. Joanna and Armando were excellent hosts, there love for nature, yoga, and well-being made this fully inclusive retreat one I will never forget :-)

I spent five days at Tambo Ilusion in January 2014. As a relative beginner at yoga, I wasn´t sure what the experience would be like - but I needn´t have worried. Johanne is an incredible teacher, and made sure the lessons were suited to my level of ability and to my interests/needs. Each lesson flew by and I learned so much.

Tambo Ilusion is far more than a place to do yoga. It is a beautiful natural environment, complete with fresh water lagoon, herbal baths, and the amazing local knowledge of Johanne and Armando. If you´re interested in food and nutrition, then you will love Johanne´s incredible meals, cooked from scratch every day. She has an encyclopaedic knowledge of nutrition - it was fascinating to learn about. And Armando knows all there is to know about the local wildlife, having lived in Tarapoto for decades.

I travelled alone, and was slightly apprehensive before I left home (what will it be like? Will everything go to plan? What if it´s nothing like the description? etc etc). Within 5 minutes of stepping off the plane, I was put at ease, and Tambo Ilusion felt like home.

This is a special place - a wonderful sanctuary in an amazing environment. The perfect way to discover a beautiful corner of Peru - I´m so glad I found it!
