Unity Woods is the country's largest Iyengar Yoga center, founded in 1979 by senior Iyengar teacher John Schumacher. John, a longtime student of B.K.S. Iyengar, holds an Advanced teaching certificate and teaches classes and workshops throughout the U.S. and abroad. Iyengar Yoga balances strength and flexibility, builds endurance, and develops awareness of Self through precision in movement and attention to subtleties of body, breath, mind and spirit. At Unity Woods our staff of highly trained and certified teachers is dedicated to providing uncompromising, quality yoga instruction. We only teach yoga. Unity Woods offers classes for students of all levels, special workshops with some of the world's finest teachers, weekend intensives, and programs covering various aspects of the science and art of yoga. Unity Woods has four Metro-accessible locations in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area: Bethesda, MD; Woodley Park and Tenleytown, DC ; and Ballston, VA.
