There are many different approaches to Yoga therapy. Integrative Yoga Therapy is a holistic, mind-body approach to health and healing which combines the ancient wisdom of yoga with the latest advances in body/mind medicine. IYT’s world view understands the life journey as an ongoing process of healing culminating in freedom, and views Yoga and health within that context. The many methods and techniques used in IYT are based on 4 principles:
1. Yoga therapy should be an in-depth understanding of a particular health condition and the specific needs of the individual.
2. Based firmly in the psychology and philosophy of Yoga as it pertains to health, including the Yoga Sutras.
3. Embrace all aspects of Yoga, including breathing (pranayama), mudra, guided imagery and meditation. Poses (asana) is an important aspect within the context of an integrated practice.
4. Is creative, student-centered education where teachers are facilitators, not gurus; facilitating the awakening of the student’s connection to his or her own true source of wellness where healing can occur.
