I've long thought Christmas should be moved to June. Makes tons more sense.


It makes sense. In December I feel as if I am expected to party, shop excessively and to be very active, but I prefer to stay at home with romantic movies and good food!

So, in summer time you should be rocking the partying till dawn, rocking the malls, and maxing out all your cards because your yang is at a high point?


I wish I had read this before the christmas season but I guess it is never to late to restore ones own energy. Plus it is still winter its only january. I got the new paul Grileys yin dvd and I am going to practice that more as the winter gets colder. and do more active excercises during the day or late afternoon. thank you this was great article!


Qigong has given me a way to re-gain balance and relaxation


This is a new perspective for me. I come from a family of doers and moves, so this helps a bit to understand the need to slow down. This is something I want to share this with my family.

I'm convinced that it is the West's terror of death that prevents people from slowing down and confronting the symbology of winter and its death call before the solstice, so in denial people speed up, shop and throw themselves out of synch with nature and the cosmos. In turn, there is no rebirth, which the solstice promises, only post holiday depression.


With all respect, bears store fat before hibernating, and while hibernating they consume the stored fat.


I find, as a KAPHA dosha, that I normally need to speed things up a bit, but my YOGA is always energizing, while done in a calm way with waterfall nearby (small, tabletop feature), and soothing mediation music. So, I can have both, and feel restored and calm. I am very much in tune with the weather, sun, rain, cold, etc., and how it affects my body, so I was, apparently, doing the Yin yoga routine naturally, and eating the Yang foods automatically.


I am overjoyed to read this article because I now know why its okay to slow down in the winter.
