Here's a good introductory article on yoga nidra.
Amazon (and I'm sure others) offer many $.99 mp3 downloads of guided yoga nidra meditations, some of which are surprisingly effective. I've only tried several, but I can highly recommend Winter Robinson...here's a link that may help http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-music&field-keywords=yoga+nidra
could you help me to practice a yoga routine for recovery after total knee replacement. I need to work on strength and flex extend at the knee joint.
I was not getting good sleep most nights and have to do meditation first thing in the morning to calm down my mind. Now I do Yoga Nidra before going to sleep. It gives me deep and restful sleep and I wake up fresh. Now I dont have to do the morning meditation to calm down anymore....
I experienced Yoga Nidra in a yoga class. I enjoyed it. I have found an audio CD by Shiva Rea that was great. This is a great way to wind down after a lousy stressful work day.
I try to practice much like you describe, and another helpful tool for me is to think about "releasing" which I allow from my body, mind, and emotions. I try to let it all go, then settle into the breath. More practice, good teachers, and articles like yours will certainly make this practice rewarding.
I am certain that this will take off in leaps and bounds! The need of restorative sleep that combines the practice that I love is sure to get me practicing it as well as talking about it to the women here in Michigan. Thanks YJ...this is just what the Doctor ordered! Namaste!
I have tried Yoga Nidra once, and fell asleep after 5 minutes and stayed asleep until the end. I didn't feel any different afterward, often having felt better after regular end of the class corpse pose. I think the session was too deep. Having taken hypnosis, I realized that the benifits coudl be subconcious. Since I was in a teacher training at the time, afterwards there was a long discussion on what was said and why. I was a little upset to hear what was said during my sleep, some of the analogies were disturbing. I recommened a good nap instead.
