I love Yoga and intend to be a yoga teacher. Recently, we got a India yoga teacher in our local studio, who is very nice and very dedicated. I love his class and like to be his student as well.

I found that I didn't really lose substantial weight until my practice went up to 5-6 days a week. At that point, however, the majority of the behavioral cycles in one's life --sleep, work, eating and relaxation - become subservient to one's practice also, so that one's overall health, is truly integrated into a genuine gestalt, of mind, spirit and body. I know it sounds flaky, but its not. In just under three years, I have lost about 30 pounds of fat, and gained about 10 of muscle - oh yea, and I look about 10 years younger as well!

It's Never Easy

I used Ashtanga yoga to help me lose weight, and I did. I lost 35 pounds in a year, and I've kept it off for two years. I write about it on my blog here: http://losingweightafter45isabitch.blogspot.com/.

Besides the calorie burning and the toning, yoga has also made me more aware of what I eat and how it impacts my body overall (not just my weight).

I learned to not eat unhealthy processed foods, and eat natural, organic foods. That helps weight loss.

I've been doing yoga for three years and my weight goes up and down mostly up. I continue to do my practice without expectations. I am a food addict and I wonder what I would feel like if I did not do yoga. One needs not to be attached to the body.

I haven't gained any weight but everyone thinks I look like I have. I attribute that to the toning yoga has given me overall and perhaps I have gained muscle weight while appearing leaner. I don't know with certainty but it sure is nice.

I have been regularly practicing yoga for over three years (a mixture of Bikram & Power types) and, largely as a result, I finally have gotten off the 30+ pound weight roller coaster (crash/gain) I had lived on for over twenty years! Yoga gave me the peace and routine first, to begin to build healthy eating practices--it also gave me the patience to accept slow results and to wait for results. Starting over a year ago, I set myself a "50 by 50" goal. I will be 50 a year from this April and I want to have accomplished a 50-pound loss by then and to have sustained it for at least 6 months by the time of the "big" birthday. Right now, I am 35 pounds down and well into my new routine of yoga and healthy eating--so I think it will happen! I'll just keep chipping away at roughly 2-3 pounds a month as I watch my body transform in the yoga mirror each day . . .

I have found that I have gained weight with yoga. Butt don't be alarmed - I was a bit underweight I believe that with a steady practice you will find your "balanced" self and weight is just an incidental part of it.
