Spirulina Millet

This vegan side dish from Sharon Gannon, David Life's partner, pairs well with steamed vegetables and seasoned tofu.

makes 6 to 8 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 cup millet
  • 3 cups water
  • 5 tablespoons flaxseed oil
  • 5 tablespoons powdered spirulina
  • 2-3 tablespoons Bragg Liquid Aminos
  • or soy sauce

Directions

  1. Place dry millet in a saucepan with water and bring to a boil. Cover and reduce heat to medium low and cook for 30 minutes or until the water is absorbed, and the millet is fluffy.
  2. Remove from heat. Mix in the flax oil, spirulina, and Bragg's with a fork until all of the millet is bright green.

I'm interested in why you all wrote, "Sharon Gannon, David Life's partner". I think she can stand on her own. (And anyway, I doubt this was intended, but it's a bit old fashioned (cough, patriarchal) to qualify a woman by reporting the man she's with...as if she isn't enough on her own.)

Stephanie

I tried this with various whole cooked grains and supergreens powder, which I had instead of just spirulina. It is surprisinly delicious and I prefer eating the supergreens this way than in my smoothies. I also omitted the soy sauce; it would be good but not necessary. Thanks for the great tip!
