Meet the Innovators: Richard Miller
Clinical psychologist Richard Miller is a leading practitioner of yoga therapy, combining Western psychotherapy and Eastern spiritual teachings. He helped found the International Association of Yoga Therapists and Viniyoga America and is director of education of the Yoga Research and Education Center in Northern California.
Miller's teaches seminars in what he calls Advaitayana yoga, which incorporates asana, mudra, pPranayama, yoga nidra, meditation, and Advaita Vedanta. His principle interest is using the disciplines of yoga for meditative self-inquiry from the perspective of nondualism.
"Yoga in America is as it has been throughout the ages," says Miller. "Yoga calls us to heal our misperceptions of separation and fear. At any given moment, few appear to hear the call, and fewer still will actually respond to the deeper teachings of yoga. However, we are all on our way home to knowing ourselves as the Divine Presence that we are. We will all eventually respond to the call of yoga, whether in America today or elsewhere in the future. It cannot be otherwise."
