Answers to your questions about health, nutrition, anatomy, and more.

Q: Are there certain foods that can help post-class achy joints?

A: Sadly, no, but there has been some research examining supplements like glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate for joint-pain relief, as well as into the potential anti-inflammatory effects of fish-oil supplements, though results for all three have been mixed. Maintaining a healthy weight is actually the best thing a person can do for joint health—especially in the lower extremities, which are more load-bearing—and this is where nutrition counts. Balancing the calories you consume with the calories you expend in exercise will go a long way toward staying fit and keeping your joints healthy.
