When there is a thick white coating on the tongue, it may be indicative that toxins (ama) are present. Tongue scraping improves your ability to taste, gets rid of old food debris, and prevents bad odor in the mouth.

Here is the right way to scrape your tongue:

--Buy a stainless steel tongue scraper.
--Gently scrape your tongue. Start by scraping from back to front 5–8 times.
--After each scrape, rinse off the ama in some running water.
--End by brushing your teeth with a soft-bristled brush and some herbal toothpaste.
