Day 15: Beginner

Morning Practice with Kate Holcombe

Welcome to the final week of the 21-Day Yoga Challenge. You may already have observed a change in your yoga practice, your body, or your energy levels. Today you'll revisit the morning sequence presented on Day 1. Notice if it feels easier or harder, if coordinating your breath and movements comes more naturally, and if your attention is more or less focused.

A regular morning practice serves as a personal "state of the union," revealing invaluable information about your body, mind, and spirit. If balance postures are particularly challenging or your mind particularly jumpy on a given morning, you may want to avoid big decisions that day. If your neck and shoulders are particularly stiff on wintry mornings, notice if you tense up when you go outside. The solution may be as simple as an extra layer of clothing.

Challenge Tip

If you haven't managed to get on your mat every day, don't beat yourself up. Developing a good habit can be just as difficult as breaking a bad one. Ask yourself what's stopping you from practicing. If "I don't have time" springs to mind, try putting yoga on your calendar the way you would a work meeting, a dentist appointment, or a hot date. And remember that there's no minimum time requirement for practicing. A few minutes will do on a super-busy day.

Cornmeal and blueberries: a match made in heaven. Make the crêpes ahead of time, wrap in aluminum foil, and keep warm in the oven.
