Happy Days Practice with Lilias Folan

Today's practice is brought to you by the legendary Lilias Folan, who introduced countless Americans to yoga through her long-running PBS series Lilias! Yoga and You. Forty years after the first episode, the still-active teacher is living proof that a regular yoga practice pays off. This short sequence showcases her playfulness. You'll be called upon to exercise your cheek muscles—by smiling—and introduced to a giggle-inducing pose called Victory Goddess.

The goal here is to generate a sincere smile. One way to do that is to focus on pleasant memories or the blessings in your life. Try to "feel more and think less," Folan advises. If you take that smile with you when you leave the mat, you'll share its healing energy with everyone you encounter.

Have a folded blanket to sit on and a block for the standing postures.

Challenge Tip

At 12 minutes, today's practice is the shortest in the 21-Day Yoga Challenge—but potent nonetheless. If you think you have to practice for 60 minutes or 90 minutes to check yoga off your to-do list, you're setting yourself up for failure. Change your goal to something more reasonable, like 10 minutes a day. After 10 minutes on your mat, chances are you'll be up for more.

The star ingredient of this easy-to-prepare tasty burrito is chayote, a member of the gourd family. You can also substitute zucchini, or any veggie.
