Day 1: Intermediate
Morning Sequence with Kate Holcombe
To kick off the 21-Day Yoga Challenge, Kate Holcombe shares a practice that's a great way to start your day—or get an energy boost any time. The key is to "go at your own pace," says Holcombe, founder of the Healing Yoga Foundation in San Francisco. This means listening to your body.
A regular morning practice serves as a personal state of the union of sorts, revealing invaluable information about your body, mind, and spirit. If balance postures are particularly challenging or your mind particularly jumpy on a given morning, you may want to avoid big decisions that day. If your neck and shoulders are particularly stiff on wintry mornings, notice if you tense up when you go outside. The solution may be as simple as an extra layer of clothing.
Welcome to your Challenge!

Challenge Tip
On this first day of the Yoga Challenge, make a commitment to honor your breath. One way to do that is to begin and end each practice with a few moments of breath observation. Kate Holcombe recommends placing one hand on your belly, feeling it expand with each inhale and gently contract with each exhale.
