Best Foot Forward
In this week's featured article, "From the Ground Up," yoga
teacher Tias Little reminds us how the feet act as "the
foundation of the temple of the body." Weak arches and poor
alignment can ultimately lead to severe pain. Yet most of us
don't even notice our feet--we stuff them into pointy shoes
or keep them constricted with thick socks--until they begin
to throb and shout at us in agony. The good news? With a
little mindfulness during your yoga practice, you can
cultivate healthy, happy feet.
Namaste,

In this Issue:
Prasarita Padottanasana (Intense Spread Leg Stretch)
For this intense standing forward bend, try to shift your focus
to the feet, rather than working just the groins and hamstrings.
From the Ground Up
Getting to know the mechanics of your feet and the pivotal role
they play in yoga is the first step to establishing a solid
foundation in your practice.
Armchair Yogi: Tias Little
Tias Little, our model for Prasarita Padottanasana
and author of, "From the Ground Up," says the diverse
selection of books he dives into daily fuels and
deepens his own yoga study.
Best Foot Forward
Cure embarrassing foot problems with these simple home remedies.
Ask Our Expert: Aadil Palkhivala
In each yoga class my feet feel like they're on fire or I'm
standing on red-hot coals. I have flat feet, and I consistently
feel physical and mental agony due to throbbing foot pain when
I practice. What's happening and how can I minimize this?
Off Your Feet
With lots of rest, cushioned insoles, and yoga, most people
with plantar fascitis can eradicate this painful foot condition.
Yoga for Runners
Although yoga and running lie on opposite ends of the
exercise spectrum, the two need not be mutually exclusive.

Talk To Us
We have been so overwhelmed by your thoughtful
responses to past Talk mailbox questions that we've decided to
post them on the Web site. We regret that we can't post all of
the responses, but we do read each and every one we receive.
Read your responses to a previous question, "What is the biggest obstacle to your home practice?" I was surprised to find that
the most common obstacle has fur and a tail.
SANSKRIT TRIVIA: DUHKHA has come to signify sorrow, suffering,
or pain. According to the spiritual traditions of India,
existence is inherently sorrowful. However, the avowed
goal of Indian spirituality is the perfect transcendence of
sorrow or pain. Indeed, most schools of Indian spirituality
describe the ultimate reality as utterly blissful.
