Nancy Bunn

From my experience with listening to Kirtan chanting, yoga teachers, Indians, etc. it seems the "a" is pronounced as an "ahh" sound coming from the back of the throat.

Herb

As a start for showing the pronunciation, the critical difference between long A and short A ought to be shown by the standard procedure of putting a bar over the long A. Showing the subtleties of retroflex vs dental consonants, etc., gets more complicated.

Linda

It would be very helpful if you were to include phonetic pronounciation along with the meaning. Thank you.

Debra

I've been searching for a guide to proper pronunciation of sanskrit, glad to see other people are too!

Ellen

Hi,

Congratulations on your excellent site. Very nice. I like the fact that you even include Sanskrit teaching. I have been a serious Yoga student for 1.5 years now. I love it!

The list of yoga terms are great; however, there isn't a breakdown for the pronounciation of the word.

Catherine

I would love for you to publish a glossary of all the poses with their sanskrit and English names. Thank you, Sophie

@Jen - Shri is a respectful affix just as Mr and Mrs, but has more inherent meaning to it than just affix.
