i am 12 and i can do this


This is not king pigeon pose this is just pigeon pose, from my understanding. (According to BKS Iyengars "light on Yoga" book).


Thanks for the modification Lola, but not everyone can get into hero pose because of knee injuries


I thought all the "pigeon" family poses were hip openers. Im confused now. Is there a post anywhere that explains all the different pigeon variations??


The way of getting into this pose described here is not the easiest one. There is an alternative way, described in 'Light on Yoga' by Iyengar, p.367.

The instruction goes as follows:
1) Start in Virasana (Hero) on a mat or a folded blanket.
2) do a Reclining Hero pose. Stretch the arms overhead. bend the elbows and place the palms near the ears, the fingers pointing to the shoulders.
3) Bear the weight on the palms and exhale. Stretch the arms and raise the whole body from the knees by stretching the thighs and then join the knees.
4) Contract the buttocks, stretch the entire spine, bend the elbows and hold the toes. then rest the elbows on the floor. Breathing will be fast and laboured as the diaphragm is fully contracted.


It took a while before I could do it and now that i can it is so relaxing. it looks painful to look at it though.


This is such relaxing pose.


any recommendations on finding videos of this pose that are kind of instructional?

This pose eliminated my menstrual cramps--no lie. Had bad ones and when I achieved this one and kept at it (which I do 6x a week), voila!, no more advil.
