Teriffic instructions! The open mouth exhalation is a great beginning tool for the student to get the proper feel in the throat when performing this exercise.

Many times it's good to do Ujjayi progressively. Holding the breath should be slowly introduced after inhalation and exhalation. I found this yoga journal article helpful and another interestig link is http://www.yogapranayama.net/ujjayi-pranayama.html where there is a step by step approach as well as some useful audio demonstrating how to perform this technique...
