This is a variation of 'Anjaneya asana" which is low lunge and with back bend of raised arms. |

This is also called Crescent or Crescent Warrior Pose by some. It is similar to Warrior 1 except for the back foot position. |

According to the book Hatha Yoga Illustrated (Kirk, Boon & DiTuro), the Sanskrit name for this posture is Alanasana. |

In class my teacher calls this crescent pose and the arm thats on the same side as the leg that is in back slides down the leg and you lift the ribcage up and arch the upper arm back to make the crescent shape. I am also curious for the sanskrit name... |

Hi, Lola: As a counter-pose standing lunge poses I would suggest forward bends such as pandanghustasana, padahastasana, or paschtimotanasana, or a twist such as ardha matsyendrasana. I teach Ashtanga yoga, and at the end of the standing series we do Virabhadrasana II right after Virabhadrasana I, then go to sitting on the floor from Adho Mukha Savasana into Dandasana, then Paschtimotanasa (2-3 variations). |

I just looked at the instructions for this pose, and for High Lunge. The cues and directions are wonderful, but in order to eliminate confusion I would like the photos to reflect exactly what is written in the text. Thanks! |
