@Curtis. Actually, there is a branch of asanas and Padmasana is the starting pose. |

There's so much preparation to do this pose correctly that this post is probably going to hurt everybody who tried it. The way of going into the pose is a little different than above. Lotus isn't for the advanced it is the advanced. |

Madalina, if you bear the dicomfort for just a minute or two, you will find that it will abate. The skin is not breaking but at first that is the sensation you will have. |

What could I do to stop the tops of my feet from hurting when placed against the opposite thigh? It's like the skin is breaking and I can't hold the pose, even if I am open enough... :| |

Surprisingly this pose came easily to me. Buy as a young gymnast I have flexible lega in the first place. Is this pose usable for meditation. It keeps me focused |

Thanks for the comments on the ankles, I struggle with Lotus and can never hold it for long without a large amount of pain. I will focus instead on Virasana to increase my ankle flexibility and strength. Thanks again. |

Initially I had problems with my ankles too, so I started practicing Virasana twice a day. As soon as you get comfortable in Virasana, your ankle problems during Padmasana should disappear as well. |

I agree. I've been practicing yoga for a while and I can do many advanced poses I cannot master this one. My hips are not open enough nor flexible enough. There are also many, many other factors other than your anatomy, genetics, flexibility that affect what poses you can do. |

It's not my hips that cause trouble in this pose, it's my ankles.. |
