Great pose for balance hips and shoulders all in one, but still so blissful :) |

Heidi - according to Bikram, right arm under, right leg over. |

I have been taught that crossing alternating limbs (right arm on top with the left leg on top and vice versa) helps to redirect energy pathways, correcting the spirals of DNA, thereby restoring homeostasis and equanimity. |

does it matter which arm is under the other if so why. I've looked everywhere for the answer after a participant in my yoga class asked if I was teaching the arm part wrong. right arm under left while right leg is over left. |

not for nothing but this is a difficult stading pose for most beginners. I honestly don't understand the whole Bikram philosophy. If I remember correctly it actually has to do with the subtly body and energy why it should always be opposite arm on top as we teach in ashtanga. this is a pose i would tell anyone with a serious knee injury to avoid. |

I notice that your model uses the right arm over left and right leg under left technique. Any reason for alternating. I've seen this effort is used as well by B.K.S Iyengar in Light on Yoga but Bikram favours to mirror the right arm under left and right leg over left in Bikram Yoga. Coulter's Anatomy of Hatha Yoga does not alternate demonstrating the arguably more teachable right arm over left leg over. |

@Laura: but are they really professional medical doctors and experts? I am not sure I would completely trust them for anatomical explanations. |
