This pose alone can get rid of my backache right away (as opposed to forward bends which help it feel better but don't take the pain away). I wonder why, but it's the best thing for my backaches....
We just did a prelude to this pose in our yoga class today. It was very wonderful!
The joy of backbends was part of my youth- for gymnastics- yoga was unknown to me. As I aged, that joy was lost, and I suffered arthritis and severe depression. I am thrilled at 55 to again be able to feel the joy and freedom of a backbend, thanks to yoga. If it does not last in my golden age, so be it. For now it is a gift!

For some of us in their 'golden age', the backbend is always accompanied by a terrific nausea and dizziness , not to talk of pain. Thank you but no.!! Saf
