i am having same difficulty getting information on safe asanas for person with macular hole who is working on alternative healing to avoid surgery... have yet to find straigtforward explanation of what is helpful and what is harmful...

To DaveB: "scientific methods" are in their infancy, compared to "Folklore and village medicine". Auyrvedic doctors preformed cataract surgeries long before "civilized" Western societies were burning people at a stake. But if you wish, BKS Iyengar did an extensive research on glaucoma and inversions. The verdict: practiced under the guidance of a highly qualified yoga therapist inversions can be helpful.

I have both normal tension glaucoma and high blood pressure,I am on medication for both problems and am finding it very diificult to tell what postures are ok. There are many more standing postures and twists listed with contraindications even the pose' legs up the wall'. I don't understand exactly what ii is I am to avoid.

I think it is disingenous to say inversions 'help glaucoma' when all glaucoma specialists striclty warn against any inversions or feet above heart level for more than 5 seconds. Folklore and village medicine is sweet, but we trust our vision to the scientific method. Until you can back up your claims with empirical evidence, you do a great disservice to your readers by advising inversions 'help glaucoma'.

Thank you for the information. Are standing forward bends considered inversions?
