Ask The Expert: Ana Forrest

"Ever since I started teaching, my personal practice has become less for me and more for my teaching. It has made my practice feel less inwardly focused, and I miss the way it used to be. Is this normal?" My Yoga Mentor expert Ana Forrest answers this question and more.

this is in response to iron intake. You don't have to eat meat to get iron. There are plenty of other iron foods, such as brown rice. More iron is absorbed if vitamin C foods are taken at the same time, so having a tomato or squeezing fresh lemon onto the iron foods is a great way to do this. This can increase iron absorption dramatically. There are plenty of websites about iron (in food), and books on nutrition/general health that cover vitamins, minerals and the foods that contain them. Students can be encouraged to do a little bit of research for themselves - it isn't difficult. In classes where there is a space for discussion, nutrition could be a theme, with students bringing what they have found out to the class.

I have weak ankles and I bruised my heel bones a few years back, and holding poses for a long time can start to hurt and/or my legs begin to shake. Are there any modifications I could try, or would wrapping my ankles or something like that help me? Any advice would help.

dear Ana,
I am austrian and I've been zeaching yoga already for a couple of years. One problem I often confrinted with is the lack of iron that woman have when the become vegaterian.
Their doctors always saying they just should start eating meat again and when this woman doing it, the iron level realy increase. But is that the only solution.
Do you know that problem? I'm sure you know it. Please help, so I can help all my female students.
best regard
Narayan
