I am yoga teacher in the UK and practice Nauli each day. I was surprised to read at the beginning of this article, the author state that the 'Gheranda Samhita predates the Hatha Yoga Pradipika.' This is incorrect. The Hatha Yoga Samhita was composed in around 1350 CE and the Gheranda Samhita is a Bengali text composed much later, around 1700 CE. Just wanted to point that out Hope it doesn't seem pedantic but as a yoga teacher i feel that its important that these teachings are represented accurately. Hari Om ... James
I think that was probably intentional, seeing as the author noted that we should find an experienced instructor before experimenting on our own.
NAULI IS IN MY DAILY PRACTICE. I WANT TO SEE ABOUT NAULI AS SPECIAL EFFORTS.THANKS.
"Lower the chin to nest in the notch between the collarbones, at the pit of the throat. Exhale forcefully so that the lungs empty quickly and, holding the breath, mimic the action of inhalation."
Is the above quotation correct as I thought when you chin rests on chest you shouldve already exhaled, can someone please verify this.
Do you think Nauli can make muscles stronger to help with an inguinal hernia?
i never seem to master nauli, however i try
Search youtube and you'll find several movies demonstrating Nauli. For instance this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhdSxNeKJy4
I agree. I seem to lose interest in the article when I can't see an illustration of the pose.
I, too, wish you would show pictures of the poses. It is difficult to follow written instructions.
great article but having a picture will be much way better and
more self explanatory.
