Yoga Journal Now Reported By MRI

13.4 Million People Do Yoga, an Increase of 2.2 Million From Year Prior

San Francisco, CA (Nov. 23, 2009) -- Yoga Journal (yogajournal.com), today announced that has it been reported for the first time in the Mediamark Research Inc. (MRI) Fall 2009 Survey of the American Consumer˙. The MRI survey provides information to magazines, television, radio, Internet and other media, leading national advertisers, and over 450 advertising agencies, and is the gold standard by which magazine audience is measured.

The survey reports that Yoga Journal has a total audience of 1,696,000 readers, with 5.17 readers per copy. In addition, Yoga Journal readers are in the top 50 most affluent titles measured by MRI, with a median household income of $84,120. More than one in three (38.5%) Yoga Journal readers have household incomes of $100,000+.

"While MRI has been measuring the tremendous growth of the yoga market for many years, we are thrilled that they are now reporting Yoga Journal," says Bill Harper, Group Publisher for Yoga Journal. "Not only is the total audience impressive, the strong demographics reflect the growing affluence of the yoga market."

The survey also reported that in the last year alone, 2.2 million Americans began practicing yoga, for a total number of 13.4 million practitioners, a 200% increase since 2001.
