With the longest day of the year almost upon us, it’s time to take your practice outdoors and find a tribe of like-minded yogis with whom to salute the sun! Luckily, there are plenty of events happening around the country, to do just that.
Here are some of our top picks for outdoor yoga celebrations happening over the next few weeks:
Solstice in Times Square: Mind Over Madness
Each year, hundreds (thousands?) of yogis descend upon Times Square for an all-day event with yoga led by Rodney Yee, Colleen Saidman Yee, Paula Tursi, Donna Rubin, and Douglass Stewart, as well as meditation led by Tao Porchon-Lynch. The event is free, and you can pre-register today for one class to reserve your spot. timessquarenyc.org.
Yoga Rocks the Park
Get out and celebrate your community in this fun series of outdoor yoga events in cities across the country. Yoga Rocks the Park are held in municipal parks, feature local yoga teachers, live music, and even yoga for kids, so the whole family can enjoy the day. Events happen all summer long in Boulder, Chicago, Kansas City, Milwaukee, St. Paul, Cleveland, Portland, San Francisco, and other locations. yogarocksthepark.com.
If you live in the midwest, get ready to feel the love! The Bhakti Fest Midwest festival comes to Madison, Wisconsin, July 5-7. While there are plenty of yoga classes happening during the festival, we’re excited about the line up of kirtan artists such as Jai Uttal, Wah!, Dave Stringer, Sean Johnson and the Wild Lotus Band, and more. There’s also a Bhakti Fest in Joshua Tree, California in September. bhaktifest.com.
Nantucket Yoga Festival
As if we needed another reason to daydream about Nantucket, that idyllic island 30 miles off the Massachusetts coast, with its pristine beaches, cobblestone streets, picture-perfect 18th-century New England seaport villages. The Nantucket Yoga Festival unfolds over two days, is set on an organic farm, and features a mix of local and national teachers. July 12-14. nantucketyogafestival.com
