Yoga Journal Review
For most people stress is a common companion these days. Between a global pandemic, racial and civil unrest, blurred lines between work and home (for those lucky enough to be able to work from their house), you’d be hard-pressed to find a person who doesn’t feel constantly frazzled.
It’s a dangerous state to be in, both physically and mentally. Our body’s built-in stress reaction, the fight-or-flight response—the one that pumps out hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline to help us escape imminent threats—gets stuck in the “on” position when you constantly feel under attack. Over time, that long-term exposure to stress hormones can put you at risk of health problems including heart disease, digestive issues, depression, and impaired memory.
Yoga, mindfulness, and meditation counter the stress response and help tame tension. But sometimes—dare we say in these unprecedented times—an hour on the mat or in silent contemplation isn’t enough to help us feel fully at ease.
Lately we’ve been taking a chill pill to help—literally. Evvobody Calm is a supplement packed with vitamins and herbs that research shows can help mitigate the stress response. The supplement contains B-12, a nutrient powerhouse that helps make DNA and deliver oxygen to your organs. When your body is low on B12—studies show about 15 percent of people are— you can feel wiped out, no matter how many downward dogs you do.
Evvobody Calm also contains 5-HTP, an amino acid that helps your nervous system produce the feel-good chemical serotonin. While it’s not proven that taking supplemental 5-HTP can increase your serotonin level, researchers have linked serotonin deficiencies with depression and other medical issues. Another amino acid found in the fromula, L-Theanine, may improve sleep and reduce anxiety. Also present in the easy-to-swallow capsules (a big selling point in our book): Ashwaganda and Rhodioloa, herbal adaptogens that have been used for thousands of years to help the body cope with stress.
This supplement helped dial down our stress in another, more unexpected way: Most supplements are unregulated, making it easy to worry about whether you’re getting a high-quality product, or even what is stated on the label. But in addition to be organic and sustainably sourced, Evvobody Calm is lab-tested so you know you’re getting a top-notch product that has been rigorously evaluated. Stressed? Not us.
Lexi R.: I took Evvobody Calm every morning after breakfast over the course of a few weeks. My favorite benefit from this pill was how it prevented my usual caffeine crash in the afternoon; I felt it really helped stabilize my energy throughout the day. The effect of this stabilized energy was definitely more calmness and less stress. By the time I went to sleep, I never really noticed any huge differences—it was during the day that I noticed the impacts most. I would definitely recommend this to other people who want to add an extra boost to their supplement routine. The only other pill I took during this time was a probiotic, so I felt like I could really focus on the energy stabilizing effects!
