The countdown to the holiday season has begun, which means many of us are already planning Thanksgiving dinners and drafting letters to Santa. If all of this is a bit overwhelming (and how could it not be?), the solution is NOT to take time away from your mat. Energy-boosting yoga poses and practices are more important than ever right now. Read on for 5 more ways to keep your energy level up for the next two months, while remaining calm, joyful, healthy, and centered.

1. Create space to celebrate.

What’s the point of the holiday season if you forget to have fun? Baptiste yoga teacher Leah Cullis’s joyful sequence offers 14 poses that help you embrace and celebrate this happy season. Come back to your center and create light and joy with this energy-igniting sequence. Bonus: You’ll also activate your core and reduce stress with heat-building standing poses, twists, dynamic backbends, and deep hip openers.

2. Serve Thanksgiving dinner with a side of Ayurveda.

Who says you have feel bloated, blah, and full after Thanksgiving dinner? Ayurveda suggests warm, comforting dishes that use seasonal and local ingredients. Plus, Ayurvedic-inspired side dishes will support digestion and provide vital energy without skimping on taste, Shannon Sexton reports in Yoga Journal’s Cook an Ayurvedic Thanksgiving Meal This Year. 3. Don’t forget to detox.

After all that pumpkin pie, cleansing is key. Vinyasa yoga teacher Liz Lindh created this 8-pose sequence of detoxifying Kundalini kriyas, or repetitive movements, to boost energy, promote mental clarity, and clear the body of toxins. Also try this healthy, hydrating detox from Skinny Chef Jennifer Iserloh, including digestion-stoking lemon water.

4. Boost your mood with mudras.

Mudras or hand gestures can help you seal and boost your energy and help you stay focused on your greater intentions. Enhance your yoga or meditation practice with these 4 mudras to help you get through the busy holiday rush.

5. Stay hydrated.

While you’re tackling your holiday to-do list, remember to keep a water bottle nearby. Drinking 7–8 glasses of water every day is ideal for optimal health, according to Ayurveda.
