A Brief History of India by Alain Daniélou

Inner Traditions, www.innertraditions.com.

A noted hindu scholar and translator, the French-born Daniélou (1907–1994) spent two decades in India and wrote more than 30 books. A Brief History of India was first published in France in 1971 and issued in Italian in 1984. This is the first English-language version, and it will doubtless become a significant addition to the libraries of many Western students of the Indian subcontinent. It offers a sweeping, erudite, yet readable tour of the languages, religions, and civilizations that have taken root there, from more than 30,000 years ago through the present era.
