Still struggling to find a career that you’re really passionate about? Turns out, you’ve known your true calling since you were a child, says Debra Silverman, yogi Seane Corn’s astrologer, and the author of The Missing Element: Inspiring Compassion for the Human Condition.
“Career is a natural instinct, and your gifts are revealed in your childhood,” she explains. “We tend to oversee our most instinctual interests, and they’re often related to our astrological charts.”
Silverman says your true “career” is the thing you’ve been doing since you were young, that you may have set aside out of fear that you’re not good at it or due to the notion that work is work and you should keep your true passion as a hobby. But that’s not the case at all, she says. “People who stick to what they’re good at and stay in their lane” are the most successful, she promises.
Still hoping to quit your day job or find your true calling? Here’s a cheat sheet with the best careers for you, based on your sign or “element.” (Note: Don’t pay too much attention to your sun sign; your actual chart is more nuanced and would require an astrologer to map out for you, Silverman says. Instead, read her descriptions of the elements below and see which one sounds most like you.)

What Your Sign Says About Your Career
WATER: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces
Water signs are nurturers and creators. They are drawn to things you can do by yourself without socializing, and they’re focused on getting the job done. They don’t want to be centerstage; they want to be behind the scenes or one-on-one. They love food, cooking, working with children, animals, writing, poetry, films. They are caring; healing professions are wonderful for water signs, from medicine to nursing to reiki to teaching yoga. They are really good at designing homes and decorating, particularly Pisces.
AIR: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius
Air signs are writers, teachers, editors, researchers, IT professionals. They love computers, radio, coaching, journalism, and law. They don’t like structure and consistency, they like versatility and travel and they want to be able to change it up at any moment. They also want people around; they are social animals. They’re great as clergy, counselors, and social activists. They don’t want to be locked in an office.
EARTH: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn
Earth signs are super grounded. They are accountants, designers, builders, carpenters, architects, doctors and nurses—anything that is predictable with protocol and structure. They are travel agents, pilots, and flight attendants. They like agriculture and social activism; they like to really get things done, not just talk about doing things. They’re passionate about charity, philanthropy, organizing homes. They like to see and measure results. In the yoga world, they are really good studio owners.
FIRE: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius
Fire signs are the showoffs, the performers, actors, the athletes, the competitors. They like sales, spending a lot of money, and making a lot of money. They love to travel and be social. They hate quiet and being told what to do. They like being centerstage, loud and visible. They also make great yoga teachers.
