Women far outnumber men in American yoga studios today, which is a shame because it means there are many men out there missing out on the myriad of benefits that yoga has to offer them. (The Washington Post tackled this issue just last week.)
The folks YogaTrail, an online yoga directory, want men everywhere to know that yoga is for them, too. So they created Yoga Dudes for Movember, a photo contest encouraging men to share their best yoga photos with the world for a chance to win a prize package. Movember (that’s a combination of the words “November” and “mustache,” in case you didn’t know), is the campaign where men across the globe grow mustaches during the month of November to raise awareness for men’s health issues.
To enter the contest, men should upload a photo to YogaTrail’s Facebook app, Yoga Poses Around the World. (Ladies are invited to participate, too, but there’s a catch: Women have to wear a mustache in their photos.) Then share it to get votes and spread awareness. The six men who get the most votes, will win a package of yoga gear for men valued at $1,000. As a bonus, renowned yoga photographer Robert Stuhrman will choose 12 of the best photographs to be featured in a calendar, which will be sold to raise money for the Movember Foundation.
The contest starts November 1st and will continue throughout the month. We hope it inspires more men to get healthy and take up yoga, too, because the world needs more yoga dudes (mustaches optional).
