Make National Yoga Month an excuse to celebrate your community with (what else?) an après-yoga party. We did the planning for you.
While it seems we all chronically feel too busy for plans, making room for quality time with friends enriches relationships and your own well-being. If you need motivation, make National Yoga Month your perfect excuse to celebrate the community and practice with (what else?) an après-yoga party. Here’s how: Invite your friends to your favorite class, try one of theirs, or choose something totally new to experience together. Then gather your glowy post-Savasana selves in someone’s living room, backyard, roof deck corner, wherever, and make it an extension of your mat time. After all, the practice of friendship requires diligence, too.
Make your party fun with these must-haves:
1. The perfect playlist
Pick a playlist that’s mellow and fills the space, but doesn’t overwhelm it, so you can have conversations without yelling. Spotify is a great resource. Check out their acoustic, dinner, and chill mixes. If you want to keep it in the yoga mood, try yogi-musician Trevor Hall’s new album Kala.
2. DIY açai bowls
Your party will be instantly Instagram-worthy with a DIY açai bowl bar. The South American berry açai is packed with antioxidants, fiber, and heart-healthy fats and is super refreshing after a sweaty class. You’ll need frozen açai smoothie packs, non-dairy milk, and your choice of toppings. Some ideas: bananas, strawberries, goji berries, shredded coconut, chopped almonds, cacao nibs, spirulina, and bee pollen—all of which you can prepare before class. Blend up the açai according to package directions and guests can top their bowls as they like.
We all look better with a candle-lit glow, don’t you think? Scatter little votives around and pick a signature fragrance for the night. Go for a non-toxic soy or beeswax candle with a cotton wick that uses pure essential oils for the cleanest burn.
4. Conscientious tableware
Avoid the stress of post-party cleanup by choosing disposable partyware that’s eco-friendly. Susty Party’s compostable products are made in North America from renewable or sustainably harvested materials and come in bright colors and patterns.
5. Light, sippable drinks
Avoid the calories and sugar of beer and wine and choose sake, instead. It’s easy to sip, won’t give you a hangover, and may even make your skin healthier. 7. Mandatory phone stack
Avoid the temptation of checking your phone every few minutes by having everyone stack their phones, face down, somewhere out of sight. You’ll be able to fully commit yourself to every conversation, without distraction.
8. Bathroom treats
Stock your bathroom with a sugar-based hand scrub and your favorite hand cream so your friends can have a mini spa moment after class–and thank their hands for all the hard work.
9. Photo moment
Even if it’s just three of you, capture the evening with a post-class, après-yoga picture, especially if you’re guilty of only taking pictures of your kids (or food!). These times are precious, so get them on (digital) film!
