Bodysuits Are Back: Here’s How to Wear the Trend Confidently

Have you been eyeing yoga bodysuits and rompers? Here are 5 we tested and loved, plus how to pull them off!

We’ve all been there—struggling with a top in an inversion or backbend, trying not to show too much. Trendy bodysuits, onesies, and rompers offer a smart solution for a worry-free flow. (There’s a reason they graced Yoga Journal covers for decades!) After a short hiatus in the yoga market, bodysuits have been making a comeback. Here’s how to wear the trend confidently—andwith a modern twist.

1. Start Basic


The Onzie Yoga and Dance Leotard is a great entry into bodysuits because of its basic, classic look. The boy-short cut offers more coverage, a departure from the one-piece-bathing-suit look, and a modern take on the trend (high cuts were popular in the past).

Fashion tip: Still feeling too exposed? Add harem pants on top for a trendy and comfortable alternative.

2. Don’t Go Too Tight


Free People’s Movement Centered Onesie is so comfortable, you might find yourself falling asleep during Savasana (but here’s why you shouldn’t). The super-soft rayon and Spandex fabric is loose enough to let you forget about any body-consciousness but still have the freedom to move organically during your flows. Our test confirmed a vinyasa flow was no problem for this bodysuit. 

Fashion tip: The loose top does not come with a built-in bra, so wear your cutest print sports bra for an extra color pop.

3. Choose Comfort


Out of the tighter, more form-fitting bodysuits we tested, the Strata Silverstone Bodysuit from Outdoor Voices was the most comfortable. The designers even kept seams off the back so your Savasana could be dig-free and uninterrupted. The polyester and spandex fabric is stretchy and impressively sweat-wicking. We tested this bodysuit for a home practice flow outside on a hot Colorado day and noticed no discomfort or awkward sweat stains. Note that sizes do run large, so refer to their size chart before purchasing.

Fashion tip: Throw on a breezy crop top over the bodysuit to go from yoga-to-brunch effortlessly!

4. Go Edgy


There is one word for The Mika Yoga Wear Kali Yoga and Dance Long Leotard: SEXY. We like to imagine Beyoncé does her yoga workouts in something like this. So embrace your inner Queen Bey, show off your curves, and let body confidence take hold.

Fashion tip: Bodysuits don’t have to be just for the studio—wear this one on your next girls’ night out with a (vegan) faux leather jacket and heels for a show-stopping look.

5. Make a Statement


We’ve been noticing a lot of Insta-yogis hopping into inversions while wearing the Daughters of Culture jumpsuit, so we knew we had to try it out for ourselves. The one-size-fits-all (0–14) fabric is light and comfortable and makes for an interesting conversation starter with your neighbor in class. We did find it made inversions more fun but felt it was a little too loose for a 60-minute flow class. 

Fashion tip: This jumpsuit makes you feel like a total fashionista. Throw on some bohemian wedges and a chunky necklace for a comfortable look during your Sunday morning errands.
