Practice outdoors in New York City’s Bryant Park this summer, with Kristen Kemp and other renowned instructors curated by Yoga Journal.
This New Jersey-based yoga teacher, blogger, and author loves to keep her classes fresh, sweaty, and fun. Her yoga bag follows suit, with a few surprises inside.

Lole Lily Tote Bag
Lole’s Lily tote is the definition of versatile. Kemp loves that it fits all of her essentials, and she can dress it up or down. “I splurged on this handy yoga bag because it has a pocket for my laptop, a yoga mat compartment, and plenty of room for my clothes and cosmetics!” she says.
LG Tone Pro Wireless Stereo Headset
Kemp teaches yoga at six different studios across New Jersey, and she doesn’t hit the road without her headset. “It let’s me talk on the phone or listen to audiobooks safely,” she says. “My husband uses his for jogging. You can wear it around your neck, so the hassle of the tangled cord is completely eliminated.”
Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Stick
Listen up, hot yogis! Kemp has a secret weapon. “I teach mostly hot yoga, so makeup melts off my face, but this lip gloss stays put during class, even when I take sips of water,” she says. “It makes my otherwise naked face look a little more put together, and it’s very moisturizing for my lips.”
Backyard Poultry Magazine
In addition to her husband and three kids, Kemp loves her flock of seven chickens that live in her suburban backyard. “I read Backyard Poultry to learn things like ‘How to Trim Beaks and Claws.’”
Young Living Thieves Essential Oil
Young Living Thieves essential oils keep Kemp feeling fresh. “I use a blend of clove, lemon peel, cinnamon, eucalyptus, and rosemary oils on days when I teach three classes in a row,” she says. “My students like when I put some on their shoulders during savasana. I also drop some on my kids feet when they stink up the car!”
Nathan Flip-Straw Frosted Tritan Water Bottle
From fancy glass mason jars to metal canteens, Kemp has tested every drinking device, but her Nathan water bottle has outlasted them all. “It still works perfectly and looks brand new after two years of drinking, dropping, and dishwashing it,” she says.
Goody Simple Styles Spin Pin
Kemp loves to wear her long locks in a bun, but elastic hair ties and bobby pins cause too much damage. “Just two spin pins hold my hair up all day long without any breakage,” she says. “Students who see me put them in are always fascinated at how easy they are to use.”

Keebler Mini Fudge Stripes Original Cookies
“Most of my yogi friends spend a lot of money on fancy health bars, nuts, and cacao nibs,” Kemp says. “I love those things too, but sometimes, I just want a quick, inexpensive snack I can pick up at the closest store.” She carries around cups of these tiny cookies to share with her managers and students. “They always make people smile, and they’re only 150 calories for 14 cookies.”
