The best way to age? As gracefully as possible. Here are a few tricks to slow the clock.
Eat a Whole-Food, Plant-Based Diet
Fill your plate with fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, soy, and nonfat dairy. Limit meat and refined carbohydrates, like sugar, white flour, and high-fructose corn syrup.
It’s important to talk openly and authentically about what’s go-ing on in your life at least once a week, so make spending time with friends and loved ones a top priority. Start a book club, organize potluck dinners, or join a charity softball team.
Practice Yoga and Meditation Daily
Chronic stress accelerates aging, but an hour a day on your mat may help take the edge off and slow down aging.
Drink Greek Coffee
For some added heart protection, try Greek coffee. It’s associated with improved blood vessel functioning, according to a 2013 study in Vascular Medicine. Drinking two cups a day may lower heart disease risk. Buy fine-grain grounds and a boiling pot called a briki that’s used to make Greek coffee at recipiada.com.
Go For a Run
Aim to get in at least 30 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise every day. Walking counts, too.
