1. Going vegetarian or vegan is one way to eat in accordance with the yogic principle of ahimsa (nonharming), especially with regard to animals (read more in Why You Should Try a Vegetarian or Vegan Diet).
2. Vegan and vegetarian diets can be good for the Earth. Raising animals for slaughter contributes to land erosion and water pollution. And a 2006 United Nations report found that, globally, livestock and dairy farming produce more greenhouse gas emissions than transportation.
