We enter July with an opposition—an astrological term for when planets are across from one another and their energies are at odds—from Saturn, the authoritative planet, in humanitarian Aquarius, and Mars, the planet related to primal action, in fiery Leo. Reconciliation of this opposition can be expressed as allowing our compassion for humanity and our community to turn into the passion needed to find creative ways to promote change.
The rest of early July could be just as inflammatory, as Mars and Venus in Leo fuel a drive to passionately pursue your heart’s desires, while Saturn in Aquarius calls for discipline and restraint. This may be a stressful time for the collective. We should strive to be present during this challenging period. What action is being called forth from your heart? How can you be a resource for your community?
Here’s a look at what’s in store this month.
Key Planetary Dates
July 1: Saturn in Aquarius asks us how we can create structure in order to serve our communities, while Mars in Leo has a much more self-oriented aspect. How can the passion in your heart be directed to meet the needs of your community? This month is a good time to meditate on this concept.
July 3: Rebellious Uranus in earthy Taurus continues to bring up questions around creating radical shifts in our lives, while the dynamic tension of Mars in Leo is giving us the fuel to take action. Are we going to use our fuel to fight or to create? At this time, try to cultivate awareness around your ability to self-regulate—and where that ability might fall short. Here is a helpful resource to get some relieving tips for negotiating a kinder relationship with your emotions.
July 6: Use the 6th through the 8th to find a more relaxed disposition as the new moon draws closer—this moon will inspire some needed tenderness, and an opportunity for a reset.
July 9: The new moon in Cancer invites us to find ways to care for our emotional body. This is the first new moon since the summer solstice. It brings with it the reminder to see all as one in order to cultivate more care for the world and those around you. Think: What would a mothering figure do that would make you feel comfortable? Doing a small version of that for yourself and the people around you is always a good start.
July 11: The ruler of thoughts, Mercury, enters Cancer, the sign that personifies the flow of emotions. The invitation is to know that you are not your thoughts and you are not your emotions. While acknowledging that truth, we can still tend to our emotions and thoughts through presence and care. From now until the 27th, Chandra Bhedana (left nostril breathing) can assist in our embodiment of Mercury in Cancer, bringing awareness to the lungs through the Ida Nadi (lunar channel) to direct the flow of our emotions.
July 21: Venus, the planet of art, beauty, and relationships enters into the sign of particularity, Virgo. Dig into the details of how you can care for your health and relationships at this time. Are you only thinking about what needs to change in your partnerships, practice, or your work? What adjustments can be made in order to move toward small improvements without being overly critical of ourselves and others?
July 22: The sun enters its home sign of fiery Leo. Here, the sun has the ability to connect you with your higher purpose. Reflect on the last time you rose with the sun and practiced Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation). Try to wake with the sun and engage in a short flow. Allow the sun to become your teacher, and see what it reveals.
July 23: The full moon in Aquarius again highlights the theme of community-oriented action and thought. It begs the question of how we can shine a light on new ways of creating circulation of resources and care. Focus on the needs of your local community—the continued need for this kind of work will important for the foreseeable future.
July 27: The swift planet, Mercury, enters expressive Leo. This pairing is interesting, as Mercury rules thought and Leo rules the heart. Ask yourself: When you are expressing your thoughts, are you coming from the heart? Or are you allowing the fire of the heart to become overpowered by the thinking mind? Try to speak only from your heart here.
July 28: Jupiter returns to Aquarius, inviting us to revisit the removal of outdated modes of thinking in order to truly expand. Jupiter is just as much about clearing the way as it is about creating growth and expansion. If you have the space, tune into this backbend with blocks practice— a practice like this can be a symbolic reminder that your “blocks” are present to assist in your process.
