In June, we continue to move through eclipse season. Eclipse periods foreshadow themes in our personal lives that need work. When we align with these divine cycles by taking time for self-reflection, we can tap deeply into our purpose and be a stabilizing force and resource for our communities.
The eclipse portal—defined plainly as “a gateway”—continues throughout the month. The time between eclipses allows us to tap into aspects of ourselves that we don’t readily see until we enter the celestial gateway and exit the other side. Things we’ve turned a blind eye to are often revealed at this time.
Key Planetary Dates
June 2: Venus, the planet of love, beauty, and the arts, comes into the sign of Cancer, inviting us to find what makes us feel held and nestle into that space. Engage in nurturing practices such as meditations and restorative yoga to welcome this energy.
June 10: Today an annular solar eclipse (when the moon blocks out most of the Sun, but leaves a ring of fire visible around it) occurs in Gemini. Cultivate your practice of the 5th limb of yoga: pratyahara—finding stillness and deep listening. Can you detox from the news, social media, and other distracting external stimuli? We do not practice pratyahara to dissociate from what is happening, instead we use it to find concentrated awareness, which allows for true reflection.
June 11: Mars, the planet of our drive and ambition, enters into the creative sign of Leo. Mars in Leo can cause our passions to burn fervently. Taking some time to do gentle heart openers can be a balm for the fierce fire that this time can infuse into our personal lives and into the collective.
June 14: Uranus squares Saturn for the second time of the year—a major planetary aspect known for creating tension. Steadfast Saturn will be locked in a struggle with unpredictable Uranus. This particular aspect hasn’t occurred since December 24, 2020. If you can remember, review what that time was like for you and observe how far you have come since then. This will bring more clarity around what is to come for the rest of the year.
June 20: Jupiter, the planet of expansion, goes retrograde in Pisces. At this time, we will all have to review where we have attempted to grow and expand out into the world too quickly. The invitation is to review and renew compassion for yourself and the collective. The Sun also enters Cancer on this day, asking for us to shine a light on how we are cultivating and nourishing good practices and relationships in both our emotional body as well as our familial spaces.
June 22: Mercury moves forward after its reflective retrograde period in communicative Gemini. How have you allowed space for curiosity since the retrograde period began? What new perspectives have blossomed forth for you recently? The invitation here is to take 10 to 20 minutes to journal about these questions in order to find clarity and reorientation.
June 24: The full moon in Capricorn is the first lunation following the eclipse season. Capricorn always invites us to bring our emotional state of being into integrity with our actions. At this time, the practice of Tree Pose is recommended—it creates a sense of grounded strength and a centered state of being. Take this pose and remember: trees that don’t bend, break, and trees that bend can stay stable and not break.
June 25: Venus enters Leo bringing a softer, more artful side of this fiery energy to the forefront. Repeat some of the heart openers you practiced when Mars entered into Leo. This can be a time when creativity fueled by passion can blossom. To take advantage of this energy, consider setting aside some dedicated time today to focus on a creative pursuit that lights you up.
