Traveling this holiday season? No need to take a break from your mat. Yoga on the Fly®, the world's first guided, private yoga and meditation experience within airports, is opening its first studio next month, just in time for Thanksgiving.

Co-founders Elizabeth Feinstone and Avery Westlund, who are both yoga teachers, came up with the idea for Yoga on the Fly as a remedy for the toll that travel takes on both the body and mind. "Yoga on the Fly was created as a solution to this conundrum, providing an in-airport experience that relieves this physical and emotional stress prior to takeoff," Feinstone tells Yoga Journal. "Our serene, private studios offer an escape from the chaos of travel, with guided classes (via instructional iPad videos) focusing on travel-specific issues including anxiety, poor circulation, and muscle aches."

Airport yoga has become a trend over the last few years, with a growing number of airports worldwide offering a dedicated space for yoga. "It's been amazing to see all of the yoga rooms popping up in airports around the world, and I think it's a testament to a shift in focus on health and well-being, which can be a struggle to prioritize during busy lives and travel schedules," Westlund says. "People want to feel well, but still might not make the time or the healthiest choices. Yoga is a reminder to breathe, and a pathway to feeling better and more comfortable in our bodies and minds even during chaotic times. Airport yoga rooms are an amazing first step; we are seeking to elevate that experience even further, and for a broader audience, by incorporating privacy, careful instruction, and brief, targeted classes, so that it's less intimidating than going it alone in a communal yoga room."

Yoga on the Fly's first studio will open at Denver International Airport (DEN) on November 6, with additional airport locations rolling out in 2018. The Yoga on the Fly experience at DEN will include:

  • Classes ranging from 8 to 20 minutes that include yoga, meditation, and breathwork, developed and filmed by Feinstone and Westlund themselves (who are now seeking partnerships with a variety of renowned teachers for future collaborations and content development.)
  • Guided movement, specific to travel-related issues such as poor circulation, muscle aches, anxiety, and more.
  • Yoga By Numbers® mats.
  • SoundOff wireless headphones
  • Five private studio rooms
  • A curated retail selection of athleisure wear and mindful travel accessories
  • An essentials "beauty bar"
