Music, art, yoga, AND a solar eclipse?! Yep, the Oregon Eclipse Gathering will be truly unique as festivals go, celebrating the first solar eclipse viewable in North America since 1979 (the first one in some lifetimes). The week-long event, taking place in Big Summit Prairie, Oregon, August 17–23, 2017, will feature a yoga immersion during the week leading up to the festival and an incredible array of additional activities.
“I think every person on the face of the earth needs yoga in some way or another. And that can just be breathwork, meditation, or flow, but everybody needs yoga,” says Kelly Layne, the yoga curator for the event. “Especially in the chaos of the world that we live in now. I hope that it gives people an opportunity to connect internally, externally, and get grounded and also connect more with yoga so that maybe they start to develop their own practice on a regular basis. It’s super important to me to provide all of these modalities because what’s one person’s flow is not going to be another person’s.”
The lineup features a whopping 60 expert presenters, including Cristi Christensen, Marques Wyatt, Gypsy Bast, Hannah Muse, and Aaron Alexander, coming from all around the world to share their wisdom on yoga, breathwork, meditation, spirituality, and more. “Our schedule is big,” Layne says. “We could also have a fewer amount of teachers but there’s just so many amazing people that I wanted to feature. I wanted to give that opportunity and make it bigger.”
The plethora of classes and workshops to choose from means there’s bound to be something for everyone. Lecture topics include embracing self-expression, aligned movement, sound healing, using yoga to change the world and conscious awakening of the soul. There will also be live musicians to promote creativity and unity and (obviously!) yoga classes of varying styles: hatha, yin and yang, Iyengar, Kundalini, Bhakti flow, Shamanic, and even hip hop–inspired asana.
The overall experience is crafted to leave the participants feeling inspired, awakened and alive in a way that is all-encompassing, leading up to the big event: the solar eclipse on August 21. “All of the programing on the eclipse day is very intentional to lead people on this spiritual journey,” Layne says. For the eclipse, all stages will silence and activities will cease so guests can direct their full attention to the event, which some say is powerful enough to alter entire lives. After the eclipse, the celebration will carry, concluding on August 23rd.
Layne also mentioned that just 10 minutes after the event tickets went up for sale, they were completely “souled out!” Early yogi catches the eclipse, right?
