Live Be Yoga: Top 10 Must-Do’s for Yogis in Phoenix

From awesome yoga to healthy eats to stunning mountain views, Phoenix rocked. Here are our 10 favorite stops for next time you’re in town.

Moksha Yoga

None

Mary Bruce’s class at Moksha Yoga was exactly the remedy we needed after a long drive from Salt Lake City. Mary is a longtime student of my teacher Yogarupa Rod Stryker, and she teaches ParaYoga. This studio had the absolute best vibe and the most awesome students. I wish Mary could come with us for the rest of the tour–she’s the BEST.

Flower Child

None

This restaurant was so delicious, and they have the BEST kombucha on tap, as well as plenty of gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options. I ordered the Mother Earth bowl, and it came with chicken, pesto, avocado, sweet potato, quinoa, greens, onions, and cucumber. They also have avocado toast that they can put on GF Pita-Bread if you are sans gluten like me but love carbohydrates.

Camelback Mountain

None

This was the number one recommendation I got from all of my friends. It was absolutely stunning! If you are there during the peak summer times, like we were, go early in the morning, or later in the evening. It was a challenging climb, but it’s worth it, because at the top you get a great view of Phoenix and Scottsdale. Bring a small backpack to hold towels and plenty of water.

Tovrea Castle

None

We literally saw this from the freeway–we looked it up once we got to our destination, and quickly made plans to visit! Tovrea Castle is a historic structure and landmark that was originally intended as a centerpiece for a resort and later a private residence, but is now part of the Phoenix parks system. Fortunately, the castle and desert grounds are now open for tours, but we weren’t able to go inside at the time we went. I recommend going on the website to get tickets in advance and to make sure it’s open when you go.

Modern Yoga

None

Modern Yoga is such a cool and hip space. The class we took was vigorous and well-balanced, and I was definitely sore the next day (that could have just been because it was my third practice that day, but I digress). It was an awesome studio and I can’t wait to come back and take class with the other teachers!

Urban Wellness

None

This incredible oasis is such a gift to this city! Urban Wellness has brought together Arizona’s best acupuncturist, massage therapist, and yoga yeachers to create a sanctuary in the middle of the city. The facility is equipped with a red light bed, nutrition education, a Chinese Herbalist, hypnotherapist, naturopathic doctors, an MD, and soon an organic vegetarian cafe! We had a great class and got to try some of the cool healing tools they have in their space.

The Madison Improvement Club

None

Donny Starkins taught an incredible class with a kick-ass playlist! He was such a mindful teacher with a great message. This studio was awesome, and has a café inside where you can get organic juices and smoothies. There are also Spin classes that one of the students was raving about! The community felt very united and happy to be in this beautiful studio. Everyone was so welcoming, and made Brant and me feel comfortable right away. It’s a gem in the heart of Phoenix.

Sip Coffee and Beer House

None

Sip Coffee and Beer House used to be a quick lube and oil change place that they transformed into this really cool hangout spot. The bay windows provide additional outside seating, and they have gluten-free treats, which is always a plus for me. On weekends, they have live music, too!

Nekter Juice Bar

None

I always try to find the best juice bar in any city we go to. I chose Nekter to feed my body with the essential vitamins I needed while we were in Phoenix. What better way to feel great when you travel than with raw veggies and fruits? They have several locations and also have “detox” packages that you can order.

Postino

None

I want to give whoever created this menu kudos for adding gluten-free bread to their entire menu! They basically use all my favorite ingredients in all their dishes, like pesto, delicious bread, savory meats, and artichokes. We also got a sampler of the bruschetta as well as the cheeseboard. It wasn’t heavy at all, and it was so delicious, we ended up going back there twice.

PrAna

None

I love that prAna is our clothing sponsor for this tour. They work with fair trade certified products, which makes me feel good as a consumer, knowing that the workers who made the products are working under fair working conditions. prAna has supported us during this entire tour, and their fall 2017 line is EVERYTHING!
