New research shows mindfulness meditation can be a powerful antidote to insomnia. Deepak Chopra leads you to restful sleep in this bedtime video.
If you’re one of the millions of Americans who has trouble sleeping, a solution could be found on the meditation cushion. A new study published in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine shows that people with sleep problems who learned mindfulness meditation experienced greater improvements in sleep quality and fewer symptoms of insomnia, depression, and fatigue than those who followed standard protocols such as establishing a bedtime routine.
The study participants underwent six weeks of meditation instruction, but you can test the waters yourself at home with the following video. This meditation from Deepak Chopra, M.D., will help you practice nonjudgmental observation of the thoughts, a key tenet of mindfulness meditation used in the study, and settle in to deep sleep. Take a few moments to remove the barriers to sleep and reclaim the stability of your mind. Through this careful instruction you will be lulled into a restful state and from there you will find comfortable and spacious slumber.
