As far as we’re concerned, every day is International Day of Yoga. We honor and respect science and system rooted in South Asia—and acknowledge mind-body healing traditions that were developing in Africa and other parts of the world. And there’s nothing we love more than to see teachers from all over the world spreading the benefits of yoga into communities far and wide. Here are just a few of our favorite teachers who are helping make yoga a worldwide phenomenon.
Robin Yolanda Lacambra (she/her)
Hamilton, Ontario, Canada
Lacambra is the founder of GOODBODYFEEL Movement—a studio and a method that offers a combination of yoga, Pilates, and mindfulness that is holistically inclusive of marginalized communities. Classes are taught by a diverse team that offer a feel-good-in-your-body perspective that’s rooted in social justice. As a Filipinx Canadian, Lacambra says she wants to change the image of yoga in North America and remind people—all people—of their own agency.

Paula Lay co-founded Yogini Melbourne with her friend Mischa to share her love of yoga, mindfulness, and well-being with the community. A student of the Ashtanga and Iyengar styles with training in Mysore, her approach is warm and down-to-earth—and accessible to people of all experience levels. Her former life as a dancer and recent training as mental health clinician infuses her teaching to heal mind and body.

Born in Mexico, Pompa found her way to yoga in Madrid and has carried it with her all over the world, becoming certified with Yoga Medicine, Jason Crandell’s Yoga Method, and Yoga Detour Method. It won’t take you long to figure out that she’s also a fitness trainer. Her classes jump right into movement to get you fired up. Turn to her for “On the Go” classes—15- to 25-minute videos that focus on shoulders, hips, or other body parts. Her “Monday Morning” session and asana-specific tutorials will work up some serious heat. Like your yoga in Spanish? Watch her “Yoga Dynamico (Dynamic Yoga)” sessions en Español.

If you’re harboring any old-school stereotypes of a “traditional” yogini, Noel’s irreverent approach destroys them fast. She says, “Love and kindness is my religion. Sarcasm is my mother tongue. Being weird runs through my blood.” Having overcome a childhood of tragedy, she bring high energy and an uplifting perspective to her video meditations, motivational talks, asana tutorials, feminist manifestos, and general health tips. Donna Noble (she/her)
Donna Noble dabbled in yoga since the late ’90s, inspired by a photo of Madonna (Yes, that Madonna) with her leg behind her head. But it was a case of Bell’s palsy, brought on by a stressful corporate job and demanding home life, that became her wake-up call. “It was yoga that initially allowed me to heal and started to transform my life,” she said. She eventually left the stressful gig and dove 100 percent into yoga, traveling to Los Angeles to train. By 2015, she had created her YouTube channel, CurveSomeYoga, inspired by friends and family who thought they couldn’t do yoga because of their size. These days, in addition to offering local classes, workshops, and mentoring, she serves as an advisor on issues related to body positivity and diversity and inclusion.
